New restaurants opened next to Petco Park

New restaurants opened next to Petco Park

After completing a $30 million renovation, Omni San Diego is opening two new restaurants that have been renamed and refreshed just in time for the final stretch of summer and the regular baseball season.

Ace Porter is the centerpiece of the luxury hotel, taking over the space formerly occupied by McCormick & Schmick’s Seafood & Steaks. The restaurant is open to the public as well as hotel guests, with a separate porticoed entrance from the street that welcomes walk-ins and visitors to the 95-seat restaurant. As the only hotel with direct access to Petco Park via an elevated skybridge, Ace Porter’s late-night bar will honor its proximity to the ballpark with a baseball theme that includes chandeliers with small balls resembling balls and leather bar stools designed to fit guests like a baseball glove.

The baseball theme runs throughout the menu, giving Padres fans more options for pre- or post-game dining. Menu categories range from Designated Hitter to Clubhouse to Post-Game, with highlights including 8-ounce Blacked Angus burgers with crispy cheese, roasted shishito peppers, a chicken sundae and waffle cone, and Frings nachos.

Tortuga is a new rooftop restaurant located on the sixth floor with views of the city skyline. The 10,670 square-foot terrace features indoor and outdoor tables, a spacious U-shaped outdoor bar, fire pit seating and a private dining area. Adjacent to the dining terrace is the large hotel pool and 13 cabanas.

Ace Porter and Tortuga are led by chef Wenceslao Zavala, who is familiarizing his menus with Baja California cuisine as he operated a food truck on Rosarito Beach offering smoked meats and fish during the pandemic.

On Tortuga’s poolside terrace, hotel guests and locals alike can tuck into coastal fare including grilled Baja fish tacos, birria tacos, poke salad and shrimp adobada, or grilled shrimp in adobo sauce. Bottle service, champagne, local beers and cocktails like lychee martinis and blood orange bellinis are also available. Tortuga is planning a grand opening party for August 28 with appetizers, summer cocktails and a DJ.
