Class of 2025 graduates can use ISAT scores for college admission

Class of 2025 graduates can use ISAT scores for college admission

BOISE, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) —

The 2024-25 academic year begins, and for the first time, the Idaho State Board of Education’s Idaho Campus Choice program will consider Idaho Standards Achievement Test (ISAT) scores as part of the methodology used to determine whether high school graduates are eligible for guaranteed admission to four, six, or all eight of Idaho’s public colleges.

Idaho Campus Choice, formerly known as Direct Admissions, guarantees admission to Idaho public institutions based on grade point average (GPA) or ISAT scores in 11th grade English Language Arts (ELA) and math.

The policy changes mean that students who score either a proficient or advanced (Level 3 or 4) on their 11th grade English and math ISAT tests, or who achieve a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, will soon receive an admissions letter to all eight Idaho public institutions. The use of ISAT scores provides students another path to gain admission into the Idaho Campus Choice program.

Research shows that 12 percent of ISAT Level 3 students in English and Mathematics had a grade point average below 3.0. It also shows that 65 percent of ISAT Level 3 students in English and Mathematics attended college immediately after high school, and 76 percent returned to college within a year.

“Students who score at Levels 3 and 4 in English and Mathematics on the ISAT are doing well and we want to improve their chances of success in post-secondary education,” said State Board Chair Dr. Linda Clark.

At the end of September, high school seniors will receive their Idaho Campus Choice letters informing them whether they have been guaranteed acceptance to four, six, or all eight public colleges in Idaho. The next step is to select the college(s) they would like to enroll in through Apply Idaho.
