There is no place like home, there is no place like home … Back when there were only three TV channels, when The Wizard of Oz Every year when the movie was on, my siblings and I would gather in the living room, sitting way too close to the TV, cheering Dorothy on as her new tin, straw and fur friends helped her and Toto get home again. In 1938, a year before the movie was released, Judy Garland – aka Dorothy – had architect Wallace Neff build her a magnificent home in Bel Air. The house was up for sale this spring and just sold for $11 million. It remains in its classic 1930s glory inside and out. See more photos and a video here.

Another larger-than-life star, especially if you’ve seen the giant statue of her in Palm Springs, is Marilyn Monroe. The four-bedroom, three-bath Santa Barbara-style home shown above is the home Monroe purchased in Brentwood in 1962, just months before her untimely death. The 2,400-square-foot home on a half-acre gated lot last sold for $7.25 million in 2017 and was reportedly at risk of demolition. Instead, it was declared a historic-cultural monument by the city of Los Angeles to preserve it for the future.
