PLAINFIELD – A gruesome discovery over the weekend in Union County raises more questions than it answers.

As News 12 reported, police found a dead dog in a plastic bag in a Plainfield park on Saturday.

According to News 12’s report, police were called to Green Brook Park after a strange smell was reported coming from the plastic bag.

When they opened the door, they found the dog. However, according to a News 12 report, officers said the dog showed no signs of abuse.

Many questions remain unanswered. The cause of death is still unclear, as is who put the dog in the plastic bag, why and what breed of dog it was.

It is also currently unknown whether the dog was a pet or a stray.

Green Brook Park is one of 36 parks in Union County, covering more than 6,000 acres. The park is located on Green Brook, a tributary of the Raritan River.

The investigation is ongoing.
