Do you use Cash App? You could be eligible for a ,500 payout

Do you have a Cash App account that was recently compromised? You may be eligible for a settlement payment of up to $2,500 if you had/have an active Cash App account from August 23, 2018, through August 20, 2024, and any of the following apply to you: Either unauthorized or fraudulent transactions were made on it during that time, or your Cash App account was accessed without your authorization.

Why is there a lawsuit?

According to the settlement site, the class action lawsuit began when a former employee of the company accessed data from certain Cash App accounts in 2022. Then, in 2023, an unauthorized user managed to access some Cash App accounts using the numbers associated with them. Cash App and its parent company Block were also accused of neglecting their security-related obligations to users and failing to take appropriate anti-fraud measures.

To make matters worse, the lawsuit claims Cash App undermined and failed to resolve several user complaints. The company also refused to take responsibility for the problems it caused, but agreed to a settlement. A detailed version of the lawsuit can be found here.

How do I know if I am eligible?

You are eligible to receive a withdrawal if you had/have a Cash App or Cash App investment account between August 23, 2018, and August 20, 2024. And one of the following applies to you: Your account has been accessed without your authorization or a fraudulent withdrawal or transfer has been made to it.

How much am I entitled to?

Cash App and Block have agreed to a $15 million settlement fund. The amount will first be used to pay attorneys’ fees and related costs. After deductions, the amount will be divided equally among class members. The exact amount you ultimately receive will depend on the number of victims who file a lawsuit, but you can request up to $2,500.

You can also make up for the time you lost trying to solve the fraudulent activity you encountered. That’s $25 per hour for up to three hours. When the settlement fund is exhausted, you will be paid a reduced amount pro rata.
