This week, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Janice Hahn to reinstate a $20,000 reward for information leading to the capture and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the 1967 murder of Huntington Park police officer Robert Keller.

“More than five decades have passed since this murder, but the pain of losing Officer Keller has not gone away for the Huntington Park community and his family,” Hahn said. “And those decades have not dimmed our commitment to bringing those responsible to justice. I urge anyone with information about this murder to share their knowledge with our sheriff’s detectives.”

On October 5, 1967, Officer Keller was dispatched to the Wonder Shop, a store located at 6509 Pacific Blvd. in Huntington Park, to investigate a silent burglary alarm. He confronted the armed burglary suspect inside the store. Officer Keller, who engaged in a gun battle with the suspect, sustained gunshot wounds in the gun battle and succumbed to his injuries.

Although detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Division and officers from the Huntington Park Police Department conducted a thorough investigation at the time of the murder, the crime remains unsolved to this day. The case is currently being investigated by the Unsolved Unit using the latest scientific methods and technology.

“The City of Huntington Park and our Police Department are grateful to Supervisor Hahn and the Sheriff’s Department for their continued commitment to solving Officer Keller’s murder and bringing justice to justice for his family,” said Karina Macias, Mayor of Huntington Park.
