Serial shoplifter arrested after escaping from Walmart in The Villages

A serial shoplifter was arrested after fleeing a Walmart store in The Villages.

Management at the Walmart in Buffalo Ridge Plaza contacted police last Wednesday following a shoplifting incident. Walmart employees told the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office that the suspects drove away in a white, “jacked up” Ford pickup truck.

An officer spotted the truck and initiated a traffic stop at the El Dorado Internet Café in Oxford.

One of the pickup’s occupants was identified as 46-year-old Stacy Lynn Steady of Summerfield. She was wanted on a Marion County warrant for theft. An officer also found that Steady had been banned from the Walmart in Buffalo Ridge in 2022.

Methamphetamine and a glass pipe were found on Steady.

She was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was taken to the Sumter County Detention Center.

She has been arrested several times in the past, including for shoplifting:

• Steady was arrested earlier this year after she attempted to steal merchandise from Best Buy. Police fired a Taser at her face.

• Continuous was arrested in 2023 after attempting to steal $331.70 worth of merchandise from the Home Depot in Lady Lake. She was also involved in a previous theft at Home Depot.

• In 2022 She was arrested at Walmart in Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages.

She was arrested in Wawa in 2021.
