Dollar Tree opens new location in closed 99 Cents Only store in Lake Elsinore

Dollar Tree opens new location in closed 99 Cents Only store in Lake Elsinore

LAKE ELISNORE, Calif. (KABC) — Dollar Tree expands into the city of Lake Elsinore.

“There’s one at Lowe’s, so we’re a little confused as to whether they’re moving it over here. Or will there be two… what’s going on?” wondered resident Elizabeth Noonan.

The answer is that the company is opening another store. At the Collier Avenue location, employees have been busy stocking shelves and preparing the discount store for its opening later this week. The location may be familiar to customers who have previously shopped at 99 Cents Only stores.

“They’re going to need something there. People need something… they need to go shopping,” said resident David Chyzinski.

In April, California-based 99 Cents Only Stores filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and announced it would close hundreds of stores. The company later announced it had acquired the rights to use 170 leases of 99 Cents Only stores in Arizona, California, Nevada and Texas.

“Dollar Tree has determined that our market is a priority market and that due to the high demand in the City of Elsinore, they need to provide our community with a market on every corner of their assortment,” said Gina Gonzalez, Lake Elsinore Economic Development Director.

By opening another location, Dollar Tree is giving residents options closer to home. For Lynn Stevens, it doesn’t matter which store opens—she’s just looking for a good value.

“I’m glad a store is opening there,” she said. “To be honest, I’m not partial to any particular 99-cent store. I shop where I get the best deal. I have two children, one of whom is a teenager.”

On Thursday the doors will be open for business again.
