Last month we briefly reported on changes to Hedge Chevron when the gas station at 35th/Holden was sold. Now the deal is close to being finalized — the signage was removed today — and the family that has operated it for 55 years wants to thank the community. Here is their message, sent by Linda GundersonDaughter of the station founder Ted Hegge:

I would like to announce to the West Seattle community that the Hegge family has sold Hegge Chevron at the corner of 35th Ave SW and Holden St. We want to thank all of you in the community for your loyal support over the years.

Some of you may remember our father, Ted Heggewho started the business in 1969 with our mother by his side. Our father loved working in the community, serving all of his customers and making some very good friends along the way. Sadly, Ted passed away in 1989 after a battle with cancer. Our mother decided to continue running the station after his death with the help of our brother. Markwho took over the daily management.

Like our father, Mark had a real connection with his customers and employees. Mark passed away unexpectedly and very sadly in 2010. Our mother had a great desire to continue to serve the community and keep the station running.

Following the passing of our mother in April 2023, the family decided to sell the business. Our family would like to say a huge thank you to all the employees and customers who have been part of Hegge Chevron. We couldn’t have done it without your loyalty and commitment. The new owners will continue to employ the current staff, so you will continue to see the familiar faces of Karen, Alan, Sue and Chris. Once again, a big thank you to everyone who has been a part of the Hegge Chevron story.

The new owners plan to rename the company Space Agea family-owned regional chain. According to permit documents, they want to convert the former repair area into a convenience store.
