The US Capitol Complex was placed under a tornado warning because a tornado caused by Storm Debby On Friday, the storm is heading towards Washington DC. Police announced that due to the warning, all staff in the Capitol complex should immediately go to the storm shelters in their offices.

This happened one day after the Washington Nationals baseball team’s game against the San Francisco Giants had to be postponed due to bad weather. Storm Debby has made landfall in South Carolina for the second time. It is moving up the east coast and causing massive tornadoes. More than 130,000 people are without power.

The National Weather Service has issued a warning for DC and surrounding areas. “Tornado Warning including Washington DC, Oxon Hill MD and Glassmanor MD until 8:45 a.m. EDT,” the agency said on X, a platform formerly known as Twitter.

Meanwhile, New York City experienced several flight delays due to bad weather. LaGuardia Airport in Queens imposed a flight shutdown due to thunderstorms at 7:15 a.m. on Friday, which was downgraded to a ground delay at 8:21 a.m.

The FAA said there were also delays of about 45 minutes at Newark Liberty International Airport and congestion of about 30 minutes at John F. Kennedy International Airport. A tornado warning has been issued for 17 New Jersey counties due to the risk of severe thunderstorms. There is no tornado warning in New York City, but a wind warning is in effect for the area.
