Pennsylvania diners angry over ‘staged’ Kamala Harris campaign appearance after popular restaurant evacuated: ‘Unbelievable’

Pennsylvania diners angry over ‘staged’ Kamala Harris campaign appearance after popular restaurant evacuated: ‘Unbelievable’

Patrons at a Pittsburgh culinary landmark expressed outrage Monday after they were reportedly forced to leave the establishment before Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz arrived for a weekend campaign stop.

Several people who were enjoying food, drinks and the Pittsburgh Pirates game on television at Primanti Bros. in Moon, Pennsylvania on Sunday said they were all rushed out of the restaurant at 4 p.m. sharp.

Mark Dodson of Collier, who said he was only in the area to enjoy “the Bucs,” as the Pirates are known, just wanted a quiet day.

“She’s in the lead”: Kamala Harris is ahead of Donald Trump nationwide, according to new poll

“I wanted to watch some sporting events and have lunch in the afternoon,” Dodson said, because Primanti is known for its signature Pittsburgh-style sandwiches, which are piled high with cold cuts and fries – a Steel City tradition.

“At about 3:30 a.m. the bartender says, ‘Last round’ – what do you mean, ‘last round’?” says Dodson, adding that the employee informed him that there was a private event at the beginning of the hour.

Dodson, who said he is familiar with the restaurant business, said the whole situation came about suddenly.

“They turned off the TVs … so you couldn’t see the game,” he said. “I thought this is nonsense – this is a public restaurant. It was kind of unbelievable to me.”

Dodson said he ended up being the last real customer to leave the restaurant, and when he reached his car, it was the only one left in the parking lot. He also noticed a growing presence of protesters across the street, many in pro-Trump attire.

A video shared by Allegheny County Republican Committee Chairman Sam DeMarco III showed a Harris-Walz campaign bus and several white vans appearing shortly thereafter.

When the procession arrived, the protesters shouted, “They kicked us out of the Primanti Brothers” and “You are terrible people.”

Others verbally accused the campaign of using “actors” – because a video of Harris’ visit itself taken by ABC News showed a full dining room with people enjoying their food.

“Holy shit, all these actors in these vans,” a man among the anti-Harris protesters was heard shouting.

Amy Smith, who lives in Moon, said she was also eating lunch at Primanti Bros. when she was among the customers asked to leave.

Smith said she heard Harris would be in the area and predicted she would stop at a nearby Sheetz gas station popular with candidates on their way to Pittsburgh International Airport – and she did.

Smith said she saw two blue Harris-Waltz buses arrive, followed by a white bus with no decals. Democratic Rep. Chris Deluzio of Pennsylvania – who represents the suburban region – was also reportedly spotted at the event with Harris.

She also gave her timeline of events. She arrived for lunch around 2:50 p.m. After her group left the restaurant, Smith said Harris did not arrive until around 6 p.m.

A request for comment to the Harris campaign team itself also remained unanswered at the time of publication.

Other local figures who reportedly accompanied Harris on her day-long tour of Western Pennsylvania included Senator Bob Casey Jr. (D-Penn.) and former Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis.

A video from inside Primanti Bros. by an ABC News partner showed Harris and Second Gentleman Douglas Emhoff greeting guests.

Fox News Digital reached out to Primanti Bros.’ headquarters in Pittsburgh and was directed to an employee’s email address. That employee did not respond.

Another stop on the tour also drew criticism, as Harris stopped by Sheetz to buy some Doritos before leaving the region.

The Biden administration is suing the Altoona-based gas station and convenience store chain for allegedly discriminating against job applicants and violating civil rights laws.

The EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) cited Sheetz’s use of criminal records in the hiring process as the reason for the violation.

Republican lobbyist David Urban drew attention to this point on X by sharing a picture of Harris in a Sheetz bag with the caption: “Apparently Kamala Harris forgot that the Biden Harris administration is suing Sheetz for requiring her staff to do criminal background checks when she stopped by for lunch yesterday.”

However, after the Primanti Bros. debacle, DeMarco apparently tried to calm sentiment toward the Pittsburgh restaurant chain by saying the restaurant should be given a little more leeway.

“Often campaigns involve renting out business space for a private party or special event. Maybe that’s what happened here? Either way, I like a good Primanti Bros. Hot & Cheese sandwich, so let’s give them a break.”

DeMarco offered a caveat, quipping that if former President Trump or Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio) did not receive a similar “affirmative” response if they ever asked to stop by, “I’ll let you know.”
