Shoppers are mourning the loss of another popular community store after a century-old furniture store announced its permanent closure.

Popular South American retailer Badcock Furniture & More shocked customers last month by announcing that it would be closing its doors permanently.

All 380 Badcock Furniture stores in 12 states will close.

However, to soften the bad news, the branch managers also announced a bonus.

There will be at least one more big sale.

“All Badcock stores are closing! Up to 50% off merchandise while stocks last,” the chain wrote on social media in late July.

The retailer posted an honest explanation and apology for the closures on Facebook.

“We would like to express our sincere thanks for being a valued customer of Badcock Home Furniture & more,” the post said.

“Unfortunately, we are going out of business and all stores will be closing in the coming months.”

The business has been in existence for 120 years.

“We understand this brings questions and have compiled some of the most frequently asked questions to ensure a smooth transition for all of our customers,” they write.

The US Sun has contacted Badcock Home Furniture & More for comment.

Insolvency is heading downward

The reason for the closures is simple.

The company’s parent company, Conn’s HomePlus, filed for bankruptcy in July and Badcock Furniture was forced to follow suit.

Representatives of Conn’s Homeplus stores said they will be closed until October 31.

The liquidation sales have already begun.

A final closing date for all Backcock Furniture stores has yet to be announced.

However, some locations have already announced their end dates.

According to the Polk County Standard Journal, the Badcock in Cedarwood, Georgia, about 60 miles northwest of Atlanta, has already warned its customers that it will close in the near future.

In addition, all stores no longer offer financing options for purchases.

However, customers with financed purchases can still make their payments online, by phone or by mail.

Buyers react differently

Many buyers expressed their disappointment on social media that the shared stable disappeared from the community.

“It is so sad to see all these hard working people lose their jobs. Many of these people have dedicated many years of their lives to this company,” said one comment.

“Badcock was always nice to the small town people. You could always buy quality furniture without spending a fortune,” wrote a second.

However, some said they did not mind seeing the traditional retailer go.

“That doesn’t surprise me. I went there once and found it extremely overpriced,” wrote one person on X.

“What are the sales representatives supposed to do when they follow you around the store?” joked another.

OTHER CLOSURES

Conn’s HomePlus and Badcock Home Furniture & More aren’t the only stores closing their doors in 2024.

Retailers across the country are closing stores, whether due to safety concerns, inflation or changing consumer demand and behavior.

Earlier this summer, Walgreens announced it would close up to 25 percent of its 8,000 stores, citing rampant theft as the main reason.

True Value, a competitor of Home Depot and Lowe’s, will also close several locations by the end of the year.

Restaurants and fast food chains are also affected: Olive Garden competitor Buca di Beppo has closed several branches in recent weeks.
