T&T Supermarket Inc. – Canada’s largest Asian grocer – will open its first store in California next fall. The 51,000-square-foot store is slated to open in a former Walmart location in Federal Realty’s 60,000-square-foot Westgate Center in San Jose, California.

This is T&T’s third store in the U.S. The first location is scheduled to open this summer in Bellevue, Washington, at the Kimco Realty Marketplace at Factoria. The brand’s second store is scheduled to open in Lynwood, Washington, in summer 2025.

T&T’s California store will feature a grill counter, noodle station, dim sum and street food section, a made-to-order Chinese crepe station and an in-store bakery, to name a few. The store will also sell its own brand products.

Loblaw’s steps to strengthen its US presence

T&T was founded in Vancouver in 1993 and now operates more than 33 stores in Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and Quebec. Loblaw Cos. bought the company in 2009 for about $225 million.

Loblaw sold all of its U.S. stores from National Tea Co. in 1995, and its last Joe Fresh store in the U.S. closed in 2016, although the brand is still available online. However, the company plans to bolster its U.S. presence with a brick-and-mortar location once T&T’s first store opens in Washington.
