CENTER TWP. – A recent federal grant is bringing another electric vehicle charging station to Beaver County.

According to PennDOT, the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) recently provided over $7 million in conditional grants to expand electric vehicle charging capabilities. One of the sites receiving these new charging opportunities is the GetGo site near Exit 39 in Center Township. $627,038 was allocated for the project.

“With every investment in EV infrastructure, we are making clean transportation more accessible to Pennsylvanians,” said Mike Carroll, Secretary of PennDOT. “These awards will help us move to the next phase of EV adoption.”

The expansion of the newly constructed GetGo will be the sixth public charging station in Beaver County and the closest to an exit along Interstate 376. According to project officials, funding will require that 50% of the workforce come from communities within 50 miles of the site.

This latest wave of funding is part of the $171.5 million PennDOT is receiving over the next five years for electric vehicle infrastructure. To date, Pennsylvania has committed to 91 similar projects in 43 counties.

In addition to the new charging station, the Department of Energy’s charging station map shows that Beaver County residents can charge their electric vehicles at the following locations:

There are also several stations available around Pittsburgh International Airport and Moon Township. The closer drivers get to the city, the more frequently charging stations for electric cars become available.
