Some states will be the first output SNAP payments on 1 October with the COLA increase 2025 for eligible recipients. In addition, not all states and USA Areas send the maximum amounts to food stamps.

Which states have a single payday and which pays the highest SNAP benefits?

Alaska, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Vermont are the states that have only one payday for all food stamp recipients living there. Aside from that, the U.S. Virgin Islands also have only one payday.

Because the 48 contiguous states share the maximum payment amounts or allocations, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Vermont will not receive the largest SNAP checks on October 1, 2024.

In fact, the state Alaska will pay up to $3,516 for an eligible household of 8 Members who live in an area called Rural 2. There is a significant difference compared to the maximum SNAP amount under the 2025 COLA in the 48 contiguous states. A family of 8 can only receive up to $1,751.

What is the difference in the maximum SNAP benefit amount between Alaska and the 48 contiguous states?

The maximum SNAP benefit amounts are higher in Alaska compared to the 48 neighboring statesFor the financial year 2024 (October 2023 to September 2024):

  • For a household size of 1the maximum benefit is $291 in the 48 states, but $364 in Alaska.
  • For a household size of 4the maximum benefit is $973 in the 48 states, but $1,216 in Alaska.
  • For a household size of 8the maximum benefit is $1,751 in the 48 states, but $2,188 in Alaska.

The differences are even greater in the SNAP benefits 2025 (from October 2024):

  • A household of 8 in the 48 contiguous states can receive a maximum of $1,751.
  • However, a household of 8 in certain rural areas of Alaska (Rural 2) can receive up to $3,516, the highest maximum benefit of any state or territory.
