Fire marshal investigates South Park fire; police make arrest in connection with Parkway West shooting

Fire safety officer investigates fire in South Park

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of a fire that broke out Monday evening at a commercial building in South Park.

The fire was reported along Brownsville Road near Wrescom Street.

The Broughton Volunteer Fire Department said in a social media post that calls were reporting heavy, dark smoke coming from the building.

There were also initial fears that someone was trapped in the building, but that was not the case, the fire department said.

Several fire departments were dispatched.


Police arrest McKeesport man after shooting on Parkway West

Pittsburgh police announced Monday that they had arrested a man in connection with a July shooting that left a man seriously injured as he drove on the Interstate 376 West on-ramp.

Rashawn Hall, 22, of McKeesport, was arrested Aug. 12, police said. He is charged with aggravated assault, attempted murder and conspiracy.

Hall allegedly fired shots at another vehicle while driving a white Mazda SUV on I-376 West near Exit 69. Inside the vehicle, police found a 60-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the eye.

Hall is in the Allegheny County Jail and has been denied bail, according to court records.


Pittsburgh SWAT team responds to domestic incident

The Pittsburgh SWAT team responded to a domestic incident on the border of Pittsburgh’s Homewood West and Homewood North neighborhoods Tuesday morning.

The SWAT unit was called to the 7000 block of Idlewild Street. Public safety officials said the SWAT unit encountered an armed man barricaded in a home after a domestic incident around 4:30 a.m.

Police executed a search warrant at the home but did not find the man inside, public safety officials said shortly after 6 a.m.

The investigation is ongoing.


Man hit and injured by car in Strip District

A man is in stable condition after being hit by a car in Pittsburgh’s Strip District on Monday morning, public safety officials said.

Officers were dispatched to the intersection of Liberty Avenue and 25th Street around 8 a.m. after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle.

A Pittsburgh Regional Transit driver reported the incident, stating that a man riding the bus ran across the street into the traffic situation.

The driver who hit the man remained on scene and is cooperating with police, public safety officials said.

Pittsburgh Emergency Services took the man to a hospital in stable condition.


Lottery ticket worth $1 million sold in Butler

A $1 million All Cash scratch-off ticket was sold in Butler County.

The Quick Stop on South Main Street will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the lottery ticket.

All Cash is a $20 game with a top prize of $1 million. Scratch-off tickets are distributed randomly, and the Pennsylvania Lottery and its retailers do not know where the winning tickets are sold. Lottery officials do not learn where the winning tickets were sold until after a prize is claimed.

Earlier this month, a pizzeria in Indiana Township sold a winning Powerball ticket worth $214 million.
