Southwest offers flights from $42 in latest sale – when to book?

Southwest offers flights from in latest sale – when to book?

Southwest Airlines has unveiled its latest flight deals, with single tickets this fall and winter starting at just $42.

The latest sale, which ends at 11:59 p.m. PT on Thursday, August 22, offers discounted one-way tickets nationwide, according to the airline. While no promo code is required, a purchase must be made 21 days in advance to take advantage of the special pricing.

However, this Southwest sale specifically excludes all travel to California. While the discounted fares are generally available over the next six months, there are a few blackout dates to be aware of:

  • Flights within the United States are valid between September 10 and March 5, but not from November 21 to 25 and from December 18 to January 7.
  • Flights to Hawaii, Puerto Rico and international destinations are valid between September 10 and February 10, but not from November 21 to 25 and December 18 to January 7.
  • Flights from Hawaii, Puerto Rico and international destinations are valid between September 10 and February 10, but not from November 29 to December 3 and December 18 to January 7.
  • Interisland Hawaii flights are valid between September 10 and February 10, but not from December 18 to January 7.

The same flights can also be booked using Rapid Rewards points, starting at just 3,800 points, but domestic flights are subject to additional taxes and fees of $5.60 for a single ticket.

Travelers without firm plans can use Southwest’s Low Fare Calendar to find the best deals in a calendar view. Travel + Leisure I found these one-way tickets in the next few months:

  • Jacksonville (JAX) to/from Atlanta (ATL): 42 USD or 2,075 points
  • New York (LGA) to/from Nashville (BNA): 46 USD or 2,385 points
  • Chicago (MDW) to/from Pittsburgh (PIT): 47 USD or 2,462 points
  • Baltimore (BWI) to/from Charlotte (CLT): $59 or 3,389 points
  • Denver (DEN) to/from Montrose/Telluride (MTJ): $59 or 3,389 points

All of these discounted tickets are offered in Southwest’s “Wanna Get Away” fare class, which includes two free checked bags and free changes and cancellations. However, as the airline moves away from its open boarding policy, assigned seating will be introduced in the future.
