Robin Kendrick, owner of Varia, stands in front of the door at 112 E. 23, the space being vacated to expand her store at 114 E. 23rd.

Varia Resale Clothing Shop, 114 E. 23rd, is expanding next to 112 E. 23rd, the former office of Bob Williams Insurance.

Varia is the French word for diversity, she said.

“We are adding 800 feet to the store,” said owner Robin Kendrick. “The total space when completed will be 2,000 square feet.”

The new area, which houses the children’s department and stalls, will be repainted and carpeted.

Work continues today in the new space next to the original Varia store at 112 E. 23rd.

She said the store will be closed today during the expansion but is expected to reopen tomorrow.

The expansion began on August 17 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of August. The facility will remain open during most phases of the work.

The store sells branded clothing in excellent condition and is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

Founded in June 2021, Varia sells women’s, men’s, teen and children’s clothing as well as shoes, jewelry and miscellaneous items.

She currently has four vendors selling handmade jewelry, antiques, collectibles, art, handmade towels and ornaments.

Items are accepted by appointment only. Call them at 620.238.1703.

Kendrick pays cash for the items she selects and they then become the sole property of the company.

“We pay in cash up front on the agreed date,” she said. “So we take the risk whether your items sell or not.”

“We do not offer consignment, but customers who bring goods in can opt not to receive credit. Spontaneous customers can also drop by, but payment is made against credit. Donations are always welcome and gladly accepted.”

“You are allowed to bring up to 30 items,” she said. “If more than 15 items are accepted, you will receive $2 per item. $5 for jeans and bulky coats. If 15 items or less are accepted, you will receive 50% of the item price.”

She also travels to Kansas City to purchase goods for the store.

The store is having a trash can sale.

“They will be lined up in bins on tables, along with things I’ve had for some time.”
