One dead after natural gas pipeline explosion in Louisiana

The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating a fatal explosion on a natural gas pipeline in Louisiana.

A contractor working on a pipeline near South Pass, Louisiana, went missing late Saturday after an explosion and fire, Coast Guard spokesman Ryan Schultz said. Local police found the dead person around 10 a.m. local time Sunday.

The pipeline belongs to the privately owned oil and gas company Whitney Oil & Gas, Schulz said. Whitney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The fire has been extinguished and the cause of the fire is under investigation, Schulz added. According to a social media post by the Louisiana State Police, there were no other injuries.
