If you’re planning a road trip for Labor Day, consider the best time to set off.

According to INRIX, anyone planning to travel on the Thursday and Friday before Labor Day should start their trip in the morning and avoid the afternoon and early evening hours, as the roads are usually crowded then.

If you are leaving on Saturday, the best time to leave is in the afternoon. If you are returning from your trip on Sunday or Labor Day, it is best to leave as early as possible to avoid heavy traffic jams.

Gasoline prices will be lower this Labor Day weekend

If you’re taking a road trip, you’ll probably pay less for gas this Labor Day weekend than you did last year.

The average price of gasoline per gallon was $3.81 last year – and this year it is expected to be around $3.50.

Alaska cruises are very popular on Labor Day weekend

Many Americans have visited Alaska on a cruise this summer – it has become a popular domestic destination during the hot weather.

At this point, it’s probably too late to book a Labor Day trip to Alaska. Experts say if you’re looking to take a cruise to Alaska for Labor Day next year, now is a good time to book because prices are exemplary.

Travel abroad is less popular than last year

International travel over Labor Day weekend is not as popular with Americans as domestic travel this year.

According to the study, international travel has declined by 4%, while the cost of international travel has increased by 11% starting in 2023. Eight out of 10 cities for international travel booked through AAA are in Europe (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and Mexicali, Mexico were the other two not in Europe).
