Knife shop Bernal Cutlery is the newest tenant in the Ferry Building in San Francisco

It’s been a busy summer for San Francisco’s Ferry Building, as representatives announce another expansion to its food-filled halls. Delicatessen Bernal Cutlery will open a new location in Suite 26 this fall, offering a “curated version of the Valencia store,” according to a press release. Expect a selection of knives, of course, but also cookware, kitchen tools, sharpening accessories and more.

The Bernal Cutlery announcement is just the latest in a series of openings slated for the Ferry Building this year and next. Chef Alex Hong of Michelin-starred Sorrel will open a new restaurant and bakery in the former Slanted Door space in early 2025; Nopa is partnering with fishing company Water2Table to open Nopa Fish early next year; and Ocean Malasada went from pop-up to kiosk in the Ferry Building in July.

Bi-Rite sets opening date for new store

Russian Hill, get ready: The biggest and most magnificent Bi-Rite store is finally opening on Thursday, August 29th at 2140 Polk Street. San Francisco Chronicle reported. In addition to fruit, vegetables, meat and groceries, the new store will feature “a kitchen, sandwich counter, fish and meat counters and a bakery department.” The new location will be the company’s headquarters and the company has signed a 26-year lease on the premises, meaning it will be staying in the area for quite some time.

Jo’s Modern Thai expands

Jo’s Modern Thai owner Kao Saelee and his partner chef Intu-On Kornnawong are all about brunch. San Francisco Chronicle reports that the duo will open a brunch restaurant called Peach at 3257 Lakeshore Avenue, formerly known as Lakeshore Cafe. The dishes are “American breakfast classics with Asian accents,” according to the Chronwith Thai doughnuts fried to order and dishes like eggs and a biscuit with a chicken patty infused with the flavor of Thai sausage.

She is beauty and grace

The Ingleside Light learned that Beep’s Burgers’ neon sign on Ocean Avenue has been newly restored and is shining brightly. Owner Samantha Wong worked with artists Neil Ballard, Nathaniel Bice and Matt Stansell to repaint the sign and make it fog-resistant. In the meantime, Peterson Neon has maintained the neon sign over the years, and for the project, owner Shawna Peterson removed the neon and reinstalled it while the sign was being painted. Head to 1051 Ocean Avenue to check out the renewed sign (while grabbing a burger, of course).
