First look: Station 1846

First look: Station 1846

Earlier this summer, Meghan Miles moved her business, City Tours MKE, into a former auto repair shop at 215 W. Bruce St. in Walker’s Point. She also opened a cafe/bar/event venue/workspace called Station 1846 in the same building.

“Walker’s Point has been very welcoming,” says Miles. “The people who live in Walker’s Point really love their town. It’s a perfect fit for us.”

Station 1846, named for the year Milwaukee was incorporated as a city, serves as the starting and ending point for all City Tours excursions. It is also an independent facility that is open to the public, available for rental, and hosts pop-ups – including one for Halloween and Christmas – trivia nights, live music, a weekday happy hour (Monday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.) and more.

Miles will also open a Milwaukee-themed gift shop in time for the holidays.

The food and drink menu is locally focused. Drinks include local beers and wines, craft cocktails and Dogwood coffee drinks. The menu, which will expand in the future, currently features Flour Child pizzas, Milwaukee Pretzel Company pretzels, polenta, spinach and artichoke dip and charcuterie boards featuring Wisconsin cheeses and sausages. There is a full kitchen in the basement of the building.

The space is modern and airy, with exposed Cream City brick, charcoal walls, large garage doors, plants, cool lamps, art (including a piece by Miles’ 6-year-old daughter), inspirational messages and comfortable, versatile seating.

Miles launched City Tours MKE in 2013 and offers themed tours of Brew City on slow-speed electric cruisers, including a Milwaukee Haunted History Tour, a Milwaukee Breweries Tour, a Dive Bar Tour, a Sculpture Tour and more.

“City Tours and Station 1846 share the same goal: to engage the neighborhood, the community and the entire city,” says Miles.

Station 1846 is open Mondays from 9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Tuesdays to Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to midnight and Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.
