A national discount clothing chain continues its expansion into New York State with the planned opening of a store in the Binghamton area.

Construction is progressing on a Ross Dress for Less location at Parkway Plaza in Vestal.

The 22,300-square-foot Ross store will occupy most of the space formerly occupied by a Circuit City electronics store and a Price Rite grocery store in the Vestal Parkway shopping center. A Dick’s Sporting Goods wholesale store also operated at the location for a short time before moving to the nearby Town Square Mall nearly a year ago.

Last March, a 15,000-square-foot Boot Barn store opened just west of the future Ross Dress for Less.

The Ross Dress for Less chain is based in California. The parent company Ross Stores plans to open 75 new stores in the current fiscal year.

Company officials told Vestal city officials that the store at Parkway Plaza is expected to open around October 11.
