Madison County launches tenant-based rental assistance program – Oneida Dispatch

WAMPSVILLE, NY – The Community Action Partnership for Madison County has announced the launch of its new tenant-based rental assistance program, designed to provide critical support to local households struggling to make ends meet.

According to officials, this initiative aims to provide financial relief and access to stable and affordable housing to individuals and families whose income is 60 percent or less of the regional median income.

The TBRA program provides security deposits and first month’s rent and can provide monthly assistance to eligible households for up to 12 months. Please note that security deposits are not eligible for new services in New York State. Financial assistance for security deposits up to one month’s rent. This can be provided as stand-alone assistance or in conjunction with TBRA rental assistance.

Under New York State rental law, security deposits are limited to one month’s rent and may not be used as the last month’s rent. Security deposits are given as a lump sum and do not need to be repaid. Any funds remaining after move-out remain with the tenant.

The TBRA program is designed to be flexible and can be customized to meet the needs of the household. Assistance can move with the tenant, so assistance continues even if the tenant moves within Madison County. This ensures that individuals and families experiencing housing instability have a reliable resource to help them maintain their homes and cover their living expenses.

“We are very pleased to launch the Tenant-Based Rental Assistance Program,” said Elizabeth Crofut, executive director of the Community Action Partnership for Madison County, in a press release. “This program reflects our commitment to helping members of our community find and keep affordable housing and reduce the financial burdens associated with it.”

Income guidelines:

Annual income limits for households-

60% middle income area

– one person: $39,840.

– two people: $45,540.

– three people: $51,240.

– four people: $56,880.

– five people: $61,440.

– six people – $66,000.

– seven people: $70,560.

– eight people: $75,120.
