GCM employee report

The Mobile Airport Authority recently announced that it has been awarded $7,510,599 in federal funding to support the ongoing development of the new terminal at Mobile International Airport (BFM).

The money came from the Airport Infrastructure Grant (AIG) program of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL).

“This funding is a significant boost to the Mobile International Airport project,” Mobile Airport Authority Chairman Elliot Maisel said in a press release. “It is an important step to ensure our airport continues to grow and effectively serve Mobile and Baldwin counties. We are grateful for the support and look forward to continuing our work on this vital infrastructure.”

“This grant underscores our commitment to building a state-of-the-art terminal at Mobile International Airport,” said Chris Curry, president of the Mobile Airport Authority. “The new terminal is key to accommodating future growth and promoting economic development in the region. We are pleased to partner with the FAA as we continue to work toward completion of our transformative project.”

“This funding announcement brings us one step closer to completing construction and opening our new terminal at downtown Mobile International Airport. Investing in this project supports multimodal connectivity and improves the quality of life for our citizens. We are grateful for the continued investment from our federal partners who understand that Mobile is the gateway to North America on the Gulf Coast,” said Mobile Mayor Sandy Stimpson.

These investments are part of MAA’s broader strategy to improve infrastructure, prepare for future demand and support economic growth in Mobile and the surrounding area.

The Mobile Airport Authority owns and operates Mobile Regional Airport (MOB), Mobile International Airport (BFM), Brookley Aeroplex and St. Elmo Airport, generating $2 billion in economic value for Alabama. BFM is located near the Port of Mobile, a key link to multimodal connectivity integrating maritime, rail, trucking and air traffic. Construction of a new terminal and parking garage at BFM is underway and is expected to be completed in July 2025, coinciding with the shift of all commercial air traffic in November 2025.
