Daughter of Starspangledbanner Tops v.2 Yearling Sale

Following the August Yearling Sale and after a day of inspections, the Arqana v.2 Yearling Sale was held in Deauville on August 20. Almost 80% of the 170 lots offered were sold at an average price of €33,504 ($37,267, €1 = US$1.11), with a turnover of €4,533,000.

Demand was unabated throughout the day, helped by a strong presence of French trainers. About 30 of them made purchases, including Pascal Adda and François Renaut, Richard Chotard, Philippe Decouz, Henri-François Devin, Christophe Escuder, Adrien Fouassier, Charles Gourdain, Francis-Henri Graffard, Carlos and Yann Lerner, David Morisson, Lucie Pontoir, Marcel Rolland, Jean-Claude Rouget, Laura Vanska, Anastasia Wattel, and Stéphane Wattel.

After the sale, Arqana President Olivier Delloye and Managing Director Freddy Powell said: “The day ended with very satisfactory results, after a historic 2023. With 80% of horses sold and an average price of €33,000, it was one of the best v.2 sales since its launch. This sale is now firmly established in the yearling sales calendar and the very good participation of French trainers is proof of this and we would like to thank them warmly. Many of the yearlings sold today will remain in training in France and we wish them every success in next year’s Arqana Series.”

Earlier in the day, a daughter of Siyouni (Lot 330) reached €100,000 in favour of Nicolas de Watrigant (Mandore International Agency), who signed the tender on behalf of Al Shaqab Racing. The filly, consigned by Haras des Capucines, is out of the Black Type mare Take over from the family of the goalscorers of Group 1 Kinnaird as well as the talented actors Berkshire And Mickdaam .

“We bought her sister last year and although she hasn’t raced yet, she has shown a lot of potential in training,” said Watrigant. “We liked the fact that she appears precocious and is a daughter of Siyouni. She was bought for Al Shaqab Racing.”
