Tracy Meier and Adam Strachan are Park City Rotary Citizens of the Year

The Park City Rotary Club presented its 2024 Citizens of the Year awards at a ceremony during luncheon Tuesday. Tracy Meier was honored with the Professional Citizen of the Year award by Linda Singer Berrett and Adam Strachan was honored with the Volunteer Citizen of the Year award by Mayor Jack Green.

The recognition program has been in existence for over four decades and is the Rotary Club’s way of honoring local citizens for their service to the community. The awards were presented at the club’s weekly meeting on Tuesday, August 20, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Park City.

Meier is a program manager at the National Ability Center. Meier has been dedicated to the disability sports industry for over 22 years. After graduating from East Carolina University, she began her career as an intern at the National Ability Center.

Meier is a certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, a certified Equestrian Therapist, a Level 3 Ski Instructor with the Professional Ski Instructors of America, and an Intermountain Health Examiner. She has presented at numerous local, national, and international conferences and trainings. Most notably, Meier developed an exchange training program to establish an adaptive skiing program with ski instructors in South Korea.

Strachan’s civic highlights include serving as chair of the Park City Planning Commission from 2007 to 2017, president of the Association of Ski Defense Attorneys, and as a board member of the Mountain Trails Foundation. He received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Southern California and his law degree from the University of Utah, where he was managing editor of the Journal of Land, Resources, and Environmental Law.

Strachan is a partner at Strachan Strachan & Simon PC. He has defended nearly every ski resort in Utah, as well as many other clients, in a variety of cases throughout his career.

“At the Park City Rotary Club, we are all motivated to serve our community,” said former Rotary President Bob Richer, who oversees the awards. “But it’s also important to us as Rotarians to recognize those outside of our club who are making a real difference through their service to the community. Tracy and Adam are just two examples of the great citizens we have in Park City who are committed to making our community a better place.”

Following a long-standing tradition, Meier and Strachan will serve as Grand Marshals for the Miners Day Parade on September 2 along historic Main Street in Park City.

The Jack C. Green Volunteer Citizen of the Year award is named after the former mayor of Park City who served from 1978 to 1986 and played a key role in mobilizing volunteerism during the community’s formative years as a vacation destination.

The Linda Singer Berrett Professional Citizen of the Year Award is named after the first president of the Park City Rotary Club who was a strong community leader in her role as a teacher and school principal until her death in 2000.

The Park City Rotary Club was the community’s first Rotary club, chartered in 1980. Today, there are three. The club began its Citizen of the Year award program in 1981 and added the professional category in 1993. The list of 72 past award winners is a veritable “who’s who” of individuals who have made significant contributions to the quality of life in the Park City community.

The Park City Rotary Club was named the 2014 Utah Rotary Club of the Year and is widely recognized for its community service projects and support of local nonprofit organizations.

Among the club’s many activities is the annual Miners’ Day celebration. The event includes a parade, a day-long community festival at City Park, and the annual Running of the Balls, which raises over $50,000 for local causes.
