Man who claimed to have been shot at Stamford train station arrested: police

STAMFORD, CT — A 27-year-old man who claimed he was shot in the leg at the Stamford train station Monday afternoon was arrested later in the day and charged as a fugitive from justice in connection with an incident in New York City, according to Stamford police.

Ryan Bourne, who gave police an address in Flanders, New Jersey, was admitted to Stamford Hospital’s emergency room at 12:05 a.m. Monday with a gunshot wound to the leg, Conklin said.

Bourne told hospital staff he was shot when he got off an Amtrak train in Stamford, and he repeated the same story to police, Conklin said.

“Fortunately, it’s pretty busy there at this time of day,” Conklin said of the Stamford Transportation Center, noting that the department has not received any further calls about a shooting.

Investigators contacted Metro-North police, who confirmed there were no reports of a shooting, Conklin said.

“We had strong doubts that the shooting actually occurred as the victim claimed,” Conklin added.

As the investigation continued throughout Monday, Conklin said Stamford police learned from the New York Police Department that a shooting had occurred about an hour before Bourne was admitted to Stamford Hospital in the area covered by the 47th Precinct, which covers the northern part of the Bronx.

The New York Police Department then obtained an arrest warrant for Bourne, Conklin said, and after Bourne was treated and released Monday night, Stamford police arrested him and charged him with fugitive from justice.

Bail was set at $500,000. Bourne is scheduled to appear in court on August 30.

Bourne’s clothing and photos of his injuries were seized as evidence, Conklin said.

The NYPD did not immediately respond to a request for further information Tuesday afternoon.
