NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police have identified the victim who was lured behind a short-term rental property in Donelson and murdered as a 20-year-old Clarksville man.

According to police, Xavier J. Johnson was murdered on Maplecrest Drive on Monday morning. The MNPD Homicide Unit is pursuing current leads in this case.

Maryland police said they were searching for a man and woman involved in the fatal shooting. Officials said the pair lured Johnson to a home he was temporarily renting and then ambushed and killed him.

Neighbors told WSMV4 that their security cameras captured the suspected shooter in the bushes outside the home when the video showed the woman and victim driving up in a red car. The victim followed the woman down the driveway and the man chased her. Neighbors then heard about a dozen rapid-fire shots and then the couple were seen running from the area together.

According to the police, the house was a short-term rental property, but was empty at the time. Investigators assume that the three people had no connection to the rental property.

Bonell McBroom III, chief of the Metro Codes Department’s short-term rental division, said a law enforcement officer was dispatched to the home after the shooting. They respond to every reported incident at properties with short-term rental permits to investigate the incident.
