Hiring begins at Costco store in Napa ahead of October opening

Job postings have just been posted for hundreds of positions at the Costco Wholesale store, which is scheduled to open this fall as part of a larger residential and commercial redevelopment of the Napa Pipe factory’s sprawling riverfront property on the city’s south side.

The global wholesale club retailer also officially announced on its website that it does indeed intend to open the 14,000-square-foot store, which includes a 15,000-square-foot gas station with 32 pumps and 10 electric vehicle charging stations, in October — the same time frame the Seattle-based company had estimated in April when it applied for a liquor license in the city.

Costco has announced that it plans to hire up to 300 employees for the new store at 280 RiverSound Way. The starting wage at Costco in the US is $18.50 an hour for store jobs such as cashiers or sales assistants in pharmacies.

The store, which is being built on 16.4 acres at the southwest corner of Kaiser Road and Syar Way (now RiverSound Way), is part of a 154-acre redevelopment of the former Napa Pipe plant at 1025 Kaiser Road. The 14-year-old project, renamed RiverSound, includes 945 new apartments, 140 of which are zoned as public housing.

Brookfield Residential is building the first homes in RiverSound. Currently under construction is the Patina neighborhood, which will feature 79 four- and five-bedroom single-family homes ranging in size from 2,500 to 3,000 square feet, priced from $990,000 to $1.21 million.

Eight of the homes have been sold so far, and four more are expected to be ready for occupancy in October and November, according to the municipality’s website.

Brookfield has also begun construction on its Copperleaf neighborhood in RiverSound, the developer told the Napa Valley Register. It will include 58 townhomes ranging from 1,100 to 1,200 square feet.

Construction on a third neighborhood called Foundry is scheduled to begin this fall. It will feature 66 single-family homes on small lots.

The Costco store’s hours are 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, according to the city’s April 9 liquor license.

Also planned as part of the RiverSound project are a 150-room hotel along the Napa River and a 20-acre commercial site with an area of almost 200,000 square meters, according to a tender from JLL.
