Sarasota Babe Ruth 16u baseball team finishes third at Babe Ruth World Series

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) – The Sarasota Babe Ruth 16u baseball team is coming off an impressive performance at the Babe Ruth World Series in Branson, Missouri.

They finished third in the entire competition and some of the guys on that team had been waiting for this opportunity for years.

“We just tried to have fun, play our game and go as far as we could,” said Nelson Dominguez, one of the star players. “We played like we normally play and came far.”

“Having done this for three years now, it’s a big task,” said Luke Duffy, one of the team’s leaders and star players. “I think this team will definitely do it. (I’m) looking forward to it.”

Both Duffy and Dominguez entered the season with high expectations for their on-field performance, but they attribute much of their success to their bond off the field.

“I knew we were a good team since we were on the field together,” Dominguez said. “We just had good chemistry and we all got along really well. We all know each other from the area. So I knew we had a good chance.”

“This team is coming together really well,” Duffy said. “There are a lot of good guys from different schools. It’s very interesting to watch this kind of melting pot of teams come together into one big group. It’s really incredible to watch.”

Our ABC7 Sports Department will keep you updated on any special celebrations planned for the team in the future.
