Tomato Girl Summer
Late summer is upon us, so we wish everyone who celebrates it a happy tomato season. In honor of these festivities, here’s a roundup of some particularly tasty tomato dishes from around the city that we’ve been loving lately.
• Heirloom Tomato Salad by The Order: The Order describes its Heirloom Tomato Salad as “summer on a plate,” and we agree. The tomato vinaigrette enhances the already delicious flavor of the heirloom tomatoes. Oregano, arugula, whipped feta, and caper berries round it out with a spicy and tart kick.
• The garden by Cherry Picker Package + Fare: This sandwich is on the menu year-round, but it’s a hit in August. Havarti and tomatoes combined with greens tossed in lemon and oil make for a super-fresh sandwich. Editor’s tip: Add bacon to make it the best BLT you’ve ever had.
• Toast with tomatoes and ricotta from JW’s Kitchen: This summer special features Missouri-grown tomatoes from Buttonwood Farm on lemon ricotta and a slice of Neighbor’s Mill toast. The whole thing is seasoned to perfection with basil, olive oil, salt and pepper.
• La Torre Pisa Caprese Salad from Avanzare Italian Dining: This salad has long been a fan favorite, but there’s nothing better than enjoying it on the restaurant’s new patio when the tomatoes are in full bloom. The addition of Kalamata olives gives this salad a nice salty flavor.

Game begins
Since the high temperatures this time of year don’t exactly make for outdoor activities, we’ve been looking for tasty date ideas in air-conditioned spaces. That’s why we’re happy to announce that bingo nights are back at Cheri’s Place at Metropolitian Grill. Spots are already filling up quickly and are all taken for August, but there are still spots available for September 11th and 25th. And if you can’t wait until next month to quench your thirst for knowledge, Galloway Station and the south side of PaPPo’s Pizzeria also host regular bingo nights.
