Residents were delighted when the FBI was spotted raiding a shady towing company that had already received several complaints.

The towing company in question has been accused several times of stealing legally parked cars for profit.

A San Francisco resident managed to snap a few photos of the FBI raid and immediately posted them on Facebook.

“For my San Francisco folks: The FBI finally raided Specialty Towing,” the user wrote, adding a smiley face emoji.

“For those who don’t know, these guys are basically an organized crime ring that runs illegal towing services all over the city and has pointed guns at people on more than one occasion.”

“Oh yeah, and those were the guys who hooked up a car at a stop light and started towing it while PEOPLE were INSIDE it,” they continued.

“Combine that with the welfare and social security fraud they were also investigated for, and it looks like RICO charges are pending. It couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.”

The FBI confirmed the raid to CBS affiliate KPIX-TV, saying it was a “court-authorized law enforcement action.”

A local resident later told the broadcaster that he was woken up by the noise of the agency forcibly entering the company.

“The FBI people were parked across the street with their army trucks, their army helmets, their uniforms, guns drawn. And these loud noises with these loud things going boom! boom,” the resident told CBS.

Specialty Towing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

In addition to numerous FBI agents, several IRS agents were also spotted in the area.

“IRS CI special agents were there on an official mission and we do not have any further details at this time,” the agency told KPIX-TV on Thursday.

The outlet also announced that the government agency confiscated several items and took several photographs.

In addition, other agents were observed searching a company truck not far from the crime scene.

Another resident said he saw FBI agents arrest someone.

“When they arrested him, she also saw the officers carrying out what looked like a duffel bag,” Maria Vasquez told CBS through a translator.

SPECIAL TOWING INCIDENTS

Prior to the FBI-led raid on its headquarters, Specialty Towing had been accused on multiple occasions of towing several illegally parked cars.

  • August 2024: FBI and IRS agents search Specialty Towing’s headquarters in San Francisco.
  • July 2024: The city of San Francisco is banning Auto Towing and Specialty Towing from performing towing services for the next five years.
  • April 2024: The driver of a special tow truck tries to tow a car with two passengers.
  • February 2024: City Attorney David Chiu disqualifies Auto Towing and Specialty Towing from bidding and accepting city contracts.

The raid on the business occurred after a towing company truck attempted to tow a car with two passengers in the middle of the lane.

The bizarre confrontation between the two vehicles was captured on video by a passerby who reprimanded the truck driver.

“I saw a truck with its hazard lights on and then I walked over to the car next to it where people were sitting and started loading it,” an eyewitness told the outlet.

In the video, a yellow tow truck labeled “Specialty Towing” repeatedly attempts to lift the white 2017 Toyota Corolla onto its bed.

The driver of the car, later identified as Joanne, described in detail what it was like in that terrible moment.

“We were at a stoplight, minding our own business,” she told ABC affiliate KABC-TV.

The woman, who was running errands with her husband, told the outlet she thought the vehicle was moving toward a nearby autonomous Waymo vehicle, but then realized it was getting too close.

“He came from the side. I thought he was turning right. He put the car in reverse and all the lights came on. That’s when we thought, ‘Hey, something’s wrong. His lever came down,'” she said.

According to the woman, they eventually managed to elude the tow truck, but were then pursued by the vehicle for several blocks.
