ReFuels NV, one of Europe’s leading suppliers of renewable biomethane (bio-CNG) for the decarbonisation of heavy-duty vehicles, has broken ground on a new filling station in Livingston in West Lothian, Scotland.
The publicly accessible CNG Fuels brand bio-CNG filling station enables low-emission transport between Edinburgh and Glasgow.
At full capacity, the Livingstone station can refuel 14 trucks simultaneously, meaning it can refuel more than 600 trucks per day with a total capacity of 20 million kilograms (kg) of bio-CNG.
CNG Fuels also operates Scotland’s first publicly accessible renewable biomethane truck refuelling station on the M8 near Bellshill, which opened in 2021.
The Livingston Station is owned by a joint venture (JV) with the Foresight Group.
In addition to Livingston, ReFuels is building another station in Doncaster in South Yorkshire, one of the UK’s largest logistics centres.
CNG Fuels’ network of 14 filling stations currently in operation in the UK can fuel more than 9,500 trucks a day.
“The Livingston station is located right next to several major distribution centres, including Tesco and DHL. Once operational, it will enable fleet operators and their customers to further decarbonise logistics in Scotland. Bio-CNG is a low-carbon alternative to traditional fossil fuels and is more cost-effective than diesel. As ReFuels develops new sites in line with our long-term plan, we are also receiving additional orders for new Bio-CNG trucks from new and existing customers,” said Philip Fjeld, CEO of ReFuels.
