Long-time chef from the wine-growing region takes over the management of the new Italian restaurant in Sebastopol

Long-time chef from the wine-growing region takes over the management of the new Italian restaurant in Sebastopol

The new Campanella Kitchen & Garden Patio in Sebastopol is scheduled to open in late summer. Anthony Paone has been appointed executive chef.

Like Campanella co-owner Tom Rutledge, Paone grew up in an Italian-American family in New York. A longtime chef in the Bay Area, he moved to Sonoma County in 2013 for the reopening of Kenwood Restaurant (now Salt & Stone). He most recently worked at Archetype in St. Helena and Bull Valley Roadhouse in Port Costa.

Rutledge, co-founder of the Petaluma-based hospitality accounting firm RDMS Group, hopes to capture the simple, comforting flavors of his childhood at Campanella.

“This is a love letter to my grandmother and the food I ate as a child. This is my happy flavor profile,” Rutledge said in April.

“I want a place that feels like home. I think I’m partially building myself a place to eat,” he said of dishes like chicken parmesan, spaghetti with meatballs and simple pizza (a Mugnaini oven is custom-built). The restaurant will also offer plant-based and allergy-friendly options to guests.

Gillian Tyrnauer will become general manager of Campanella. She previously worked at Healdsburg SHED, Ramen Gaijin in Sebastopol and Journeyman Meats in Healdsburg, as well as at restaurants Zuni and Quince in San Francisco and Oliveto in Oakland.

Campanella will be located in the former Flavor Bistro space at 7365 Healdsburg Ave. in Sebastopol.
