Man allegedly murdered woman with hammer in QT gas station

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) – WBTV has received more information about a murder that occurred at a QuikTrip gas station in Charlotte over the weekend.

According to officials, the incident occurred around 11 p.m. Saturday at the QT on Trailer Drive.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, 53-year-old Sam Roary Jr. entered the women’s restroom and killed 47-year-old Glandina Dixon with a hammer.

Officials also said that Roary and Dixon knew each other and that this was not a case of domestic violence.

According to a police affidavit, a woman called 911 after seeing Dixon in the bathroom with a bleeding spot on the back of his head.

After reviewing surveillance video, detectives identified Roary driving into the parking lot, then walking into the store and observing Dixon.

The report goes on to say that Roary then left the store and got into his Ford F-150 to get what looked like a hammer.

Roary is reportedly seen returning to the store and going straight to the ladies’ restroom.

According to detectives, he spent nearly 40 seconds in the bathroom before going out, getting back into his car and driving away.

QuikTrip’s communications team sent WBTV a statement regarding the situation, saying:

“The safety of our employees and customers is always our top priority and we take this responsibility very seriously. We are working closely with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and will continue to assist them in their ongoing investigation into the incident that occurred at our Trailer Drive location on Saturday evening. We are grateful to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for their quick and professional response to this tragedy and for the care they have shown our employees over the past few days. We will continue to take necessary and appropriate actions to ensure the safety and well-being of our employees, customers and the communities we serve.

Dixon is said to have suffered blunt trauma to the head.

Roary is charged with premeditated murder.

WBTV reporter Erica Lunsford spoke to Dixon’s mother by phone on Wednesday.

Her mother said she was not yet ready to speak on camera about the situation, but that she was planning a vigil for Dixon soon.
