Protests in Chicago today: Hundreds march to DNC after gathering in Union Park for pro-Palestinian rally; police on scene

Hundreds gathered for a march to the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday afternoon.

Several groups were involved in an unauthorized pro-Palestinian rally that began in Union Park.

It is organized by the Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine.

The march started shortly before 6 p.m. along a set route.

There is a protest in Chicago today. Hundreds are marching to the DNC (Democratic National Convention) after gathering in Union Park.

The group is expected to travel to Park 578 near the United Center, where the DNC is being held.

On Monday, some protesters broke through an outer perimeter fence near the DNC.

Starting at about 5 p.m., hundreds gathered peacefully in Union Park, where speeches were heard.

Police presence in Chicago was also increased and Chicago Police Commissioner Larry Snelling was on site.

The demonstrators are demanding an end to the war in the Gaza Strip and an end to US military aid to Israel.

An organizer said on Wednesday that no violence was expected.

“Our goal is to end hatred and violence, and anyone who comes with the intention of doing that is not one of us. We are protesting here peacefully; we have been doing this for 10 months, we have been doing this for years. We will not tolerate this,” said Amira Daoud of American Muslims for Palestine.

The Chicago Jewish Alliance also spreads its message at Park 578.

Dozens of people were arrested Tuesday evening after confronting police outside the Israeli consulate in downtown Chicago.
