McCoy announces that he will not apply for the position of airport CEO

Albany County Executive Dan McCoy said Wednesday that he does not want to become the next CEO of Albany International Airport after reports emerged that he wanted to change jobs.

The airport board is not renewing CEO Phil Calderone’s contract. The Times Union had reported that McCoy wanted to take on the position. He is currently in the middle of a four-year term.

McCoy said he will stay in his current job.

“I love serving my constituents as County Executive, and it has been a lifelong honor to fight to provide the best services to every single resident. To be clear, I am not seeking, nor will I seek, the opportunity to become the next CEO of Albany County Airport,” he said in a statement.

“My administration has made tremendous progress, but there is still much work to be done to stimulate economic growth and create jobs throughout Albany County. The airport’s success plays a significant role in our future. I look forward to working with and supporting the CEO candidate selected by the Airport Authority Board of Directors to ensure our continued success.”
