Man in critical condition after being found shot at Atlanta gas station

Atlanta Police Department units responded to a shooting at the BP gas station on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta on August 21, 2024.

Atlanta police are investigating a shooting on Westland Boulevard near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive on Wednesday.

Shortly after 5 p.m., officers were called to the BP gas station on the corner of Westland Boulevard and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

According to Atlanta police, officers found a 41-year-old man with a gunshot wound.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from an argument that occurred down the street on Westland Boulevard, just north of the MARTA tracks.

“There was an exchange between him and another man and he was shot in the silver car. He drove from Westland Boulevard to the BP and rendered aid,” said Lt. Andrew Smith, head of the Atlanta Police Department’s homicide unit.

SKYFOX 5 flew over the crime scene and found investigators focusing on a silver car at the BP gas station.

Officers also apparently searched the woods between the gas station and the Hamilton E. Holmes MARTA station.

Investigators were on site for several hours to collect evidence. Police say they have not arrested anyone and cannot release a description of the suspect at this time.

Police are reviewing surveillance video of the incident.
