Protesters in Chicago storm the CTA station on the West Side during the DNC

The fourth day of protests during the Democratic Party Convention in Chicago saw fewer clashes than earlier in the week, but tensions still arose.

A man climbed atop a CTA train girder while waving a Palestinian flag, raising concerns among police leaders for his safety. He later ran to the Ashland train station and attempted to reach the edge of the platform before officers intervened.

Wednesday’s rally was organized by the Chicago Coalition for Justice in Palestine, which called for an enforceable ceasefire, an end to U.S. support for Israel, and a military aid and arms embargo.

The event featured eight speakers, including activist and philosopher Cornel West. The group then marched to Park 578, just three blocks north of the United Center, where DNC delegates and guests were arriving. Earlier in the week, protesters had breached the park’s fence, but this time hundreds of police formed a barricade and prevented protesters from entering the area.

The march then moved east down Lake Street, where protesters briefly occupied the platform on Damen Street before police dispersed the crowd within minutes. FOX 32 observed participants praying along the route, expressing their commitment to justice in the Middle East.

Shortly before 8 p.m., the group returned to Union Park on North Ashland Avenue. Chicago Police Commissioner Larry Snelling reported that no arrests were made during the demonstration.
