77th Annual Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Auction, Flea Market Begins Friday

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) – Bargain hunters, there’s a special event happening this weekend that you should know about.

The 77th annual Orono-Old Town Kiwanis Auction and Flea Market will be held again in Orono on Friday.

Volunteers have been working hard to organize thousands of items in their barns on Forest Avenue.

The two-day event lasts until Saturday.

The flea market opens at 3:30 p.m. on both days, the live auction begins at 5:30 p.m.

Even nearly eight decades after the event began, former president Mary Skaggs says they try to bring something new to the stage every year – and this year is no exception.

“We’ve been collecting items and donations from people since September of last year and started sorting through all of our donations in mid-May. And we have over 100 local merchants who have donated gift cards and items from their stores. One thing we especially want grandparents to know is that one of the items we’ll be auctioning off is a ride in an Orono Fire Department fire truck for a child who attends Orono schools,” Skaggs said.

The Kiwanis received a generous donation of sporting goods from the University of Maine. They have hockey jerseys, New Balance shoes and, for just $5, Black Bears football jerseys.

Organizers say all money raised will go toward Kiwanis’ mission to help children in the community.
