Council Rock Newtown was welcomed home from the Little League World Series with great celebration

NEWTOWN, Pa. (WPVI) — After their magical run in the Little League World Series came to an end, the Council Rock Newtown Little League team returned home to Bucks County on Wednesday night.

“Being away from family for three weeks and then coming home and seeing the whole city, it’s just crazy to have so much support behind you,” said Greyson Gage, one of the players.

The team bus was escorted by firefighters as it reached Chandler Fields in Newtown – the very spot where the team’s journey began.

Fresh off the bus from Williamsport, the team was greeted with cheers, confetti and hugs.

They returned home as celebrities and were asked by younger players to sign autographs and take photos.

“It was incredible to see that we have the support of our whole city. I just love it,” Rocco DaBronzo, one of the players, told Action News.

The boys from Bucks County lost to a team from Hawaii in the elimination round of the Little League World Series on Tuesday.

Immediately after the defeat, preparations for their return began at home in Newtown.

“There was no question that it needed to be done,” said Council Rock Newtown Baseball board member Brett D’Andrea. “It needed to be done 100% for these guys, to welcome them home and congratulate them on an incredible summer.”

This summer, the team’s 13 players and three coaches won one championship after another.

They went from district champions to state champions and finally to Mid-Atlantic Little League Baseball champions.

It had been 19 years since the Newtown team had competed in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, and players told Action News it was an experience they would never forget.

“It doesn’t matter if you’ve won zero and two or if you win everything, there will always be people who will support you all the time,” Gage said.

It may not have been the ending the team had hoped for, but head coach Brad Hamilton said it was all about the journey and the lessons his players learned along the way.

“What they have done recently and how they have persevered over the last three years to get to this point is something I think they will remember forever,” Hamilton said.
