Nets receive seventh-best NBA offseason rating from The Athletic

The Brooklyn Nets have decided to join the list of teams entering the 2024-25 season as a rebuilding franchise. Two of the moves Brooklyn made this offseason – trading Mikal Bridges to the New York Knicks and trading draft picks with the Houston Rockets in a separate trade – have made their offseason highly regarded by others in the NBA.

In a recent ranking by David Aldridge of The Athletic, he ranked the Nets as the team with the seventh-best offseason of all 30 NBA teams. Aside from the two aforementioned transfers, Brooklyn hasn’t done much more than make a big move by re-signing center Nic Claxton for four years and $97 million this summer.

“They hit the reset button by trading Bridges to the Knicks, ignoring the silly nonsense that they can’t trade our cross-town rivals, and made the best possible deal for their franchise,” Aldridge wrote. As Aldridge hinted, there was a point in time when the Nets tried to sign more talent around Bridges, but they decided against it, much to the delight of many pundits around the league.

This leaves the Nets well positioned for the future as they have enough first-round picks and, more importantly, control over their own draft picks for the next few seasons. As it stands now, Brooklyn will move forward knowing that they have a rebuild that many people and their fan base approve of.
