Walmart partners with Burger King to offer members discounts

Walmart partners with Burger King to offer members discounts

(Reuters) – Walmart said on Thursday it has partnered with Restaurant Brands’ Burger King to offer discounted meals to its member customers, as the retail giant seeks to make its services more attractive to better compete with Amazon Prime.

Starting in September, Walmart members will be able to enjoy discounts at Burger King, including 25% off all digital orders every day, the company said.

The partnership also comes at a time when retailers and fast-food restaurant chains are launching bargain deals to attract price-conscious customers after struggling to stimulate demand.

The retailer’s Walmart Plus subscription service offers plans for $12.95 per month or an annual plan for $98, while membership to main competitor Amazon Prime costs $14.99 per month or $139 per year in the U.S.

Amazon announced in May that its U.S. customers will be able to order from online delivery service Grubhub directly through its shopping app and website, expanding a deal that already gives Prime members free access to Grubhub+ membership.

Walmart Plus members can take advantage of the offer at Burger King stores nationwide by placing their order through the restaurant chain’s app or website, the retailer added.
