The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will close or partially close some parks and campgrounds for construction beginning this fall and winter.

The closures include very popular locations such as Silver Falls, Fort Stevens, Milo McIver and Bullards Beach, among others. The money for the projects comes from $50 million in general obligation bonds approved by the state legislature in 2021 and includes work at eight state parks and campgrounds.

“We thank visitors for their patience and continued support as we work to repair aging infrastructure and improve facilities at several state parks,” OPRD Director Lisa Sumption said in a news release. “This commitment to our state park system will benefit future visitors and the economy.”

Construction closures and partial closures from 2024 (dates subject to change):

  • 16 September: Milo McIver is scheduled to close his campground until March 2025 to renovate a restroom building and repave the area. The campground, group camps and hiker/biker area will be closed. The day use areas will remain open.
  • 16 September: The Silver Falls State Park campground (excluding cabins 1-10) is scheduled to remain closed until June 30, 2025, to allow workers to replace the B Loop restroom and repave the A Loop. During the closure, all other park facilities will remain open, including all trails, trailheads, day-use areas, and the South Falls Lodge. Work will begin next year to build a new campground and visitor center.
  • 16 September: Bullards Beach is scheduled to close its campground (excluding horse camp) by March 17, 2025 due to the need to upgrade the main sewer line and pump station to accommodate increased demand and reduce service disruptions. All campgrounds, nighttime restroom facilities, yurts, gathering spaces and dump stations will be closed. The day use area will remain open with limited disruptions.
  • November 1: Nehalem Bay State Park is scheduled to close the entire park, including the campground and day-use areas, by June 30, 2025, to install new water and electrical lines, add restroom and shower buildings, renovate nine campgrounds to improve accessibility, and repave the park access road and implement traffic calming measures.
  • Late fall/early winter 2024: Fort Stevens is scheduled to close campground loops L, M, N, O and C, cabins and yurts and the South Lake restroom by 2025 to install sewer lines, electrical lines, paving, water service and a new restroom building. All other campgrounds and day-use areas will remain open. The historic guardhouse will be part of the work and will include roof renovations, exterior cleaning and repairs and basic utility upgrades.

Several parks are scheduled to close or partially close for construction beginning in 2025, including the Clyde Holliday Campground, the Collier Campground, and the Cape Lookout Campground and Day Use Area.
