Taysom Hill is known for doing a little bit of everything for the New Orleans Saints offense.

But what about the defense?

Yes, you heard right. Saints head coach Dennis Allen — who was the team’s defensive coordinator during Hill’s rookie season in 2017 — told Kay Adams on Tuesday on the “Up and Adams Show” that his team is seriously considering using the do-it-all as a strong-side linebacker.

The only problem? The then head coach Sean Payton, who was in charge of the offensive games, did not want to let Hill go.

“We thought about making him the Sam linebacker early on,” Allen told Adams. “I’m not kidding. We talked about it, we were on defense, but the head coach at the time didn’t want to give up anything.”

“…but now he lets you do so many things that a player can only make so many plays.”

Adams asked if Allen would still use him the same way on defense.

“I would have him play as a Sam linebacker and pressure him about 50 percent of the time,” Allen said.

On a more relevant point for the 2024 Saints, Allen also said he was excited to see Hill in offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak’s new scheme, who has used Hill as a fullback and tailback during the preseason in addition to his more regular roles as a tight end and quarterback.

“He does everything with him because Taysom Hill can do everything,” Allen said. “That’s what creativity does. You bring in new thoughts, new ideas; they see the player in a different way. I think sometimes when you do the same thing over and over again, you can get caught in this routine where you think, ‘This is what this guy does, and he’s more than just a so-called wildcat quarterback.'”
