A joint venture has opened a new 40-unit luxury apartment building in downtown Montclair, adjacent to an upscale hotel that the partnership opened in 2019.

Its developers, The Hampshire Cos. and The Pinnacle Cos., teamed up with their partner Circle Squared Alternative Investments on Wednesday to announce the project’s debut at 37 Orange Road. Located just steps from Montclair’s bustling Bloomfield Avenue corridor, the property, known as The Clair, offers a mix of studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments with a range of common spaces.

Residents will also have access to the neighboring 159-room MC Hotel, built by Hampshire and Pinnacle, which features a fully equipped business center, indoor and outdoor lounge areas, a modern fitness center and housekeeping services, according to the developers. The partnership also offers residents perks such as discounted hotel rooms and catered events, as well as savings at the hotel’s Allegory Restaurant & Bar, MC Market and Alto Rooftop Lounge.

Hanson II, CEO and president of Morristown-based Hampshire. “We believe The Clair’s comprehensive amenity package and prime location at the gateway to one of the state’s most dynamic downtowns provide the perfect environment to foster those connections.”

Designed by Minno & Wasko Architects and Planners and built by Deugen Design Build, The Clair offers valet parking, package service, and community WiFi. Amenities include electric vehicle charging stations, a clubhouse and business center, an outdoor courtyard with barbecue grills, a rooftop deck, and in-unit housekeeping.

“The Clair offers residents a boutique living experience with only 40 residences, unparalleled amenities and hospitality services,” said Brian M. Stolar, CEO and President of Pinnacle. “In addition to the club-level courtyard and rooftop amenities, The Clair offers a 4,000-square-foot street-level plaza that residents will also enjoy.”

According to a press release, OceanFirst Bank has provided financing for The Clair. Hampshire has hired Sparrow Asset Management to oversee leasing in the community, while the developer will serve as property manager once stabilized.
