Alzheimer’s Run in Eisenhower Park raises money for a cure

Alzheimer’s Run in Eisenhower Park raises money for a cure

New York baseball icon Dwight Gooden will walk in the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Alzheimer’s Walk in the Park. Gooden will participate in the event, signing autographs and taking photos with eligible participants.

The walk will take place on Saturday, September 28th from 9am to noon in Eisenhower Park (Field 6). The event is free to attend, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds for AFA’s mission to fight and cure Alzheimer’s disease.

“When I was invited to be an ambassador for this march, I immediately said yes because I know the impact Alzheimer’s disease has on many families. I look forward to raising awareness and being part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America march to raise funds to help families affected by this disease and fund research for a cure,” Gooden said in a press release.

“Every step counts in the fight against Alzheimer’s, which is why we encourage everyone to walk with us on September 28,” said Charles Fuschillo Jr., AFA President and CEO, in a press release.

“The funds raised and the awareness raised will make a tremendous difference to families affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related diseases in their time of need,” said Fushillo.

All proceeds from the walk benefit AFA’s services and programs for families affected by Alzheimer’s and research for a cure. AFA offers education programs, memory testing, professional training and support groups to those affected.

Runners who raise at least $100 will have the opportunity to meet Dwight Gooden and receive an autographed baseball, and runners who raise at least $250 will have the opportunity to have their photo taken with the player.

According to the AFA, more than 6.9 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, including 60,000 Long Islanders. The number is expected to rise in the coming years, says the AFA. The AFA’s goal is to support and care for Alzheimer’s patients and their affected family members and friends.
