Eleanor Patterson overtakes Nicola Olyslagers and takes second place in the high jump

Australia’s medalist at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris Eleanor Patterson And Nicola Olyslagers took second and third place respectively in the women’s High jump Event in Lausanne Diamond League 2024 in Switzerland on Friday.

Patterson achieved her season’s best of 1.96 m, taking second place ahead of Nicola Olyslagers, who could not jump above 1.92 m.

Former world champion Patterson has a personal best of 2.02 m. She won the bronze medal at Paris 2024 with a height of 1.95 m. Olyslagers won silver at Paris 2024 with a height of 2.00 m and set the national record of 2.03 m in January this year.

Olympic champion Yaroslava Mahuchikh from Ukraine secured first place in Lausanne athletics to overcome a height of 1.99 m.

“I’m having so much fun tonight – that’s the most important thing,” said Eleanor. “It’s great to be back in Lausanne. I’ve competed here for three years, but I was exhausted and didn’t perform well. This time I felt full of energy and in one piece, and I managed to jump my season’s best.”

Meanwhile, Georgia Griffith finished fifth in the women’s 3000m with a time of 8:31.91.

Griffith set a national record of 8:24.20 to secure her first Diamond League win in Oslo in June. Earlier this month, Griffith made it to the semifinals at Paris 2024.

The women’s 3000 metres race in Lausanne was won by 2023 World Championships silver medalist Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia with a personal best and competition record of 8:21.50.

Two Australians – Oliver Hoare and Stewart McSweyn – ran in the men’s 1500 metres.

Stewart achieved his season best of 3:34.80 to finish 11th, while Oliver, who achieved his season best of 3:31.07, finished 12th with 3:36.03.

Oliver, the reigning Commonwealth Games champion, was almost seven seconds slower than his personal best and national record of 3:29.41 set last year.

Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Olympic champion at Paris 2024, won the race with a competition record of 3:27.83. Stewart and Ollie competed at Paris 2024 but were both eliminated in the repechage round.

On Thursday, Kurtis Marschall secured joint third place in the men’s pole vault with a performance of 5.82 m. The 27-year-old from Australia finished sixth in the men’s pole vault at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris with a jump of 5.85 m.

The next edition of the Diamond League will take place on Sunday in Silesia, Poland. The Diamond League final will be held on September 13 and 14 in Brussels.
