Fuel leak near Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport

Cleanup operations are underway near Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport following a fuel spill involving an airline contractor.

Officials said late Wednesday, August 21, the airport had been notified “of a minor fuel incident involving an airline contractor” at the airport’s fuel farm.

The airport fire department responded and immediately shut off fuel supplies to stop the oil spill. Cleanup and containment measures were also initiated.

Fuel leak near Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport

A press release states: “An unknown but relatively small amount of fuel leaked from the site. Oil booms were immediately placed in the waterways below the airport. It does not appear that the fuel traveled any further than 5th St. and Layton, where it was stopped by the booms. The booms will remain in place for several days.”

The Milwaukee Fire Department told FOX6 News that around 75 liters of fuel had leaked.

According to officials, the incident had no impact on flights, vehicle traffic or regular airport operations.
